A versatile solution...

Artificial grass is available in a range of different shades and lengths and a wide range of uses make it a serious alternative to natural grass.

Gardens, Balconies, Patios, Conservatories, Playing surfaces, Swimming pool and spa surrounds, Also under those difficult to maintain areas such as under a trampoline.

Many schools and nurseries have installed artificial grass and our products have been used at exhibitions, trade shows & offices.

How it is Installed

Most of our artificial grasses can be used to replace a lawn or similar surface after some surface preparation, while all of them can be installed directly on a hard surface, e.g. stone, concrete. For full installation information please see our Artificial Grass Installation Guide (pdf format, 304k)

For existing lawns and similar surfaces:

Soil is removed to a depth of about 10cm and a weed membrane laid, followed by a compacted layer of coarse aggregate, a thin, compacted layer of grit sand and then the artificial grass. The grass can be cut to fit your lawn and joined using special jointing tape and adhesive.

The edges can be nailed to tanalised wood batons. The grass can be wrapped over the edge of the wood or, if there are paving stones against the grass, nailed to the top so that the paving stones form an edge. Edging stones can be laid to give a particularly pleasing appearance.

For hard surfaces, e.g. stone, concrete:

After ensuring that the surface is smooth, the grass may be glued directly onto the surface, or otherwise held in place.

Some grasses need a sand dressing. Silica sand is brushed into the lawn and settles down gradually during rain. The sand helps to hold the lawn down and gives some protection.

Questions and Answers

Q. How much maintenance is needed
A. Much less than a natural lawn. Debris such as twigs, leaves and seedlings may need collecting from the lawn occasionally.

Q. How realistic does it look?
A. People who have seen one of our lawns have often told us that until they looked really closely they did not know it was artificial!

Q. Is it safe for children?
A. Yes. Many schools and nurseries have installed artificial grass as it provides a clean, safe playing surface. It is an ideal football surface, and your children can keep clean and won’t bring mud from your lawn into your home.

Q. What about pets?
A. Your pet will love the soft feel of an artificial lawn. Any mess is easily taken up, just like a real lawn.
The grass is stain resistant and rain naturally washes the lawn and rinses it through small drainage holes in the underside (invisible from above) so it will not smell.

Q. Can I just lay it on top of my real lawn?
A. We don’t advise leaving the real grass under the artificial lawn. It will rot under the artificial lawn and disturb the surface. Soil should be removed from the surface and the surface prepared as described in our Artificial Grass Installation Guide (pdf format, 304k).

Q. Can it be installed on slopes?
A. Yes. If it will be walked on the slope should be no steeper than 1:7 (about 15% or 8.5°).

Q. Is it suitable for swimming pool or spa surrounds?
A. Yes. Artificial grass is an ideal luxury swimming pool surround. A 1 metre (3ft) gap between the artificial grass and the pool will help prevent chlorine discolouration.

Q. Can I use a barbecue on it?
A. Our artificial grass is naturally fire retardant, and a sand dressing, if used, gives further protection, but your barbecue should be placed on slabs or similar to protect the lawn.

Q. What is it like to walk on?
A. Artificial grass is soft and springy. A sand dressing, if used, will provide more bounce than natural grass.
